History:
St. Martinus University, which is a medical school. This medical university is located in the Caribbean. University was established in 1842.By 2002, St. Martinus University established itself as a University with a focus on Medicine and Health sciences. In January 2003 the University proudly opened its doors to the first medical students and thus officially began its medical program. In doing this, the St. Martinus University continues a well-established tradition of quality education as well as providing one of the finest educational environments.
The University currently runs a fully equipped Medical Faculty, and a Faculty of Arts & Sciences. The instruction language at St. Martinus University is English. The student body of St. Martinus University is comprised of students from the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean /Latin America. St. Martinus University is dedicated to providing and maintaining a comprehensive medical education and training curriculum, and to make this education available to a global community. The university strives to produce well-prepared physicians in ambulatory hospitals and office settings using a broad-range of professional skills and judgments. The university strives to advance knowledge in the health sciences through basic and applied health care education and research in undergraduate and graduate courses of international merit.
The Government of the Netherlands Antilles has fully chartered the University to offer its curriculum worldwide and has granted the right to confer the degree of Doctor of Medicine upon its graduates. The island Government of Curacao has approved the establishment of St. Martinus University as a health sciences university. St. Martinus University faculty of Medicine is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) has recognized St. Martinus University. It is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), which is published by the ECFMG. St. Martinus University students are eligible to register and take the United States Medical Licensure Examination (USMLE).
