History:
The University was founded in 1919 with 14 faculty members and a student enrollment of 88, today the Carlson School boasts more than 3,500 students, 12 degree programs, 108 tenure-track faculty and dozens of adjunct faculty. The school received accreditation from the AACSB in 1963, one of the first 20 business schools in the nation to be awarded this distinction.
Since its founding, the Carlson School has been an active player in one of the country's most vibrant business communities, and the generosity of many business partners has helped the school grow over the years. Most notable among these benefactors is Curt Carlson, successful entrepreneur, alum, and namesake of the school.
Research by Carlson School faculty continually expands the knowledge frontier in a wide variety of disciplines. The Academy of Management Journal has ranked Carlson School faculty 7th for research productivity, and a number of our programs are ranked in the top 10 nationally for the number of articles published in leading industry journals.
Housed in a 243,000-square-foot building that was dedicated in 1998, the Carlson School enjoys a prime location on the University of Minnesota campus. The building encompasses 33 classrooms, 35 meeting rooms, a 180-seat lecture hall, and a 250-seat auditorium.
With wireless internet access throughout the facility, experiential learning laboratories, digitized audio-video information, teleconferencing, and video interview capabilities, the Carlson School combines advanced technology with intelligent design to provide a unique learning environment.
This dynamic setting has transformed the lives and careers of more than 46,000 graduates located in all 50 states and 70 foreign countries.
While many business schools would be satisfied with these achievements, at the Carlson School we look to the future. To fulfill our goal of serving more undergraduate students, we hope to begin construction of a new undergraduate center in 2006. A $10 million gift from alum Herb Hanson will support construction of the new building.
No one else sets the standards in as many ways as we do at the Carlson School. And no one else is as prepared to meet the needs of tomorrow as we are.
