History:
* University was founded in 1969. It is situated on the outskirts of Chicago Current enrollment more than 6,000 students.
* Located in University Park, Illinois, about 30 miles south of Chicago's Loop. Convenient to major cities south of Chicago, including Joliet, Kankakee, and Orland Park.
* An upper-division university: offers undergraduate courses at the junior and senior level leading to completion of a baccalaureate degree and graduate level courses leading to a master's degree.
* Four colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Education, and Health Professions; also offers a Bachelors of Liberal Arts degree from its Board of Governors program which gives credit for life experiences.
* Affordable— Financial aid is available, even to part-time students. GSU was rated the most accessible university in the Chicago area in terms of affordability by the Lumina Foundation.
* 47 degree programs are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The university also offers 11 certificate programs.
* 14 million dollars of financial aid is distributed to students each year.
* 90 percent of faculty holds a Ph.D. or highest degree in their discipline.
* The university also provides distance learning programs which serve students around the world.

This is a very well known university where the costs of tuition, boarding and lodging are very reasonable. The university has international students from 20 countries around the world.
